I am Fernando Baptista, senior editor at the National Geographic graphics department in Washington DC. I graduated in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country.

Since I started freelancing, I have been freelancing in various fields such as teaching drawing as a designer and illustrator, designing exhibition stands and scenery for theater, painting portraits and murals … and all my life I have been drawing comics, I built and sculpted different things from models of Star Wars characters to dinosaurs, from superheroes to comic samurai and other interesting subject. In 1993 I joined the newspaper El Correo in Spain. In 2007 I was called to serve on the staff of National Geographic Magazine in Washington DC. I have been associated professor at the University of Navarra and have given lectures and workshops in Europe, US and Latin America. In 2012 I was named one of the five most influential graphic designers the world over in the past 20 years.

In 2013 I was nominated for an Emmy for Walking With Giants in the category of “New Approaches: Arts, Lifestyle, Culture”. My artwork can be seen in museums and books. In summary, I am dedicating myself to tell stories visually with graphics and am lucky to be able to apply some of the techniques that I had acquired from famous designers. Sculpture and drawing are part of my way of telling stories. And curiously, I enjoy both the process of research and graphic design and the artistic side of it.
